Welcome to Elm Street House, a beautiful historic home in Maine with a rich and fascinating story to tell. And the person responsible for its revival? That would be Lilly, the talented DIY enthusiast and mastermind behind the Elm Street House social media accounts.
Constructed in the early 1870s, Elm Street House is a classic example of a home built during the balloon framing and plaster era. During this time, many homes were built using a unique construction method known as balloon framing, which involved using long pieces of lumber to create a framework for the house. Once the frame was in place, builders would then add plaster to create walls, ceilings, and other interior features.
Lilly's passion for old homes and her desire to preserve this beautiful piece of history led her to purchase Elm Street House in 2020. She immediately set to work, planning a full gut and renovation of the property. And when we say "full gut," we mean it! Lilly did all of the demolition work herself, including tearing down a dropped ceiling and wood paneling, removing wallpaper and plaster, and even clearing out old blown-in insulation.
Now, Lilly shares her experiences and her journey with all of her followers on social media. And as an added bonus, she has repurposed many of the vintage and antique finds from the home to create unique and beautiful pieces that she shares with her audience.
So whether you're a lover of history, a DIY enthusiast, or just looking for some inspiration for your own home renovation project, be sure to follow Lilly and Elm Street House for a glimpse into a truly special home.
